Phlebology is the field of medicine that deals with vein diseases. It has been an established medical specialty in Europe for more than 50 years; serious interest in phlebology has developed over the past two decades in the United States. In 2005, phlebology was recognized by the American Medical Association as a medical practice specialty.

The American College of Phlebology was founded in 1985 and is the largest phlebology society in the United States. It was established to improve the standard of care related to disorders of the veins. Its members are physicians and other health care professionals with backgrounds in a variety of medical specialties who share a common interest and expertise in vein diseases and disorders.

Dr. Ly is the only Maui Physician to belong to The American College of Phlebology.

Aloha Dermatology offers 2 methods of Spider Vein removal: Sclerotherapy and Blend Electrolysis.
Sclerotherapy Vein Treatment from Aloha Dermatology on Maui
Sclerotherapy is commonly used to treat spider and varicose veins. Spider veins usually resemble a spider web and are small red blood vessels usually found on the face and legs near the skin surface, branching out from larger veins. Spider veins and varicose veins can cause embarrassment. These reddish-purple lines on your face and legs are not unhealthy. The veins are not "broken" but are actually dilated.

We can obliterate spider veins with sclerotherapy, a procedure by injection of a sclerosing solution. There are several different sclerosing solutions available including saline (salt water) and sotradechol, which are among the safest and most popular. We usually use sotradechol rather then saline.

Spider veins are not needed for your circulation. They are actually unnecessary detours that can safely be destroyed. Depending on its size, the blood vessel may need to be injected more than once (usually one to two months between treatments). Numerous vessels can be treated in one session. Most veins will disappear within two weeks to two months. Touch ups maybe necessary for certain sized veins.

Vasular Electron is the safest, most effective and economical device on the market today for the clinical removal of telangiectasia (spider veins), cherry angiomas, couperose veins, broken capillaries and other vascularlesions found on the face and upper body.

The Vasular Electron uses the blend method of electrolysis which unites DC (direct current) current and HF (high frequency) current in a single probe. With a single-probe touch method, these currents are applied simultaneously to coagulate a segment of the blood vessel. The blend method is the preferred method by specialists for the treatment of vascular skin disorders.
